Day trips & Activities in The Netherlands/Holland
Sandy Dunes and Nature Reserve of Zandvoort
The beautiful Zandvoort Beach is surrounded by an important Nature Reserve existing of sandy dunes covered with grass and fine bush where wildlife such as
fallow deer, foxes, hares, rabbits, squirrels and more than 100 bird species can be found. The dunes are of great importance and provide a natural protection
from the sea as The Netherlands is 6 meters below sea level. Also the park contains a natural filtered water reserve of crystal clear water canals and pools
providing the drinking water for the western region of the Netherlands including Amsterdam.

There are no facilities in the park. The nature park is a big attraction to walkers and bikers as one is allowed to go off-road and explore every part of the
reserve bordering the wide sandy beach of Zandvoort. The nature reserve is easy to reach by train and best explored by bicycle as you are able to cover more
ground. It is a wonderful place to spend a day in Dutch nature and enjoy a self-made picnic, ending the day with a refreshing drink or meal on the beach
boulevard before returning back to Amsterdam. For a small extra train fare bikes are allowed on board of the trains. Area map and biking routes available.
